Charlene is a Legal Director in the Marine Team at Kennedys’ Singapore Office.

Charlene practises commercial litigation and international arbitration, with a focus on shipping, logistics and international trade matters. She has been instructed on and involved in highly complex, cross-jurisdictional disputes including matters involving LNG / commodity sale and purchase contracts, contracts of affreightment, charterparties and marine insurance policies amongst others.

Charlene has acted for some of the world’s largest oil traders and shippers, Protection & Indemnity Clubs, shipowners, ship agents, ship brokers and freight forwarders amongst others. She has also advised creditors in insolvency and restructuring proceedings. She has extensive experience representing clients in international arbitration conducted under the ICC, SIAC, SCMA, LCIA and LMAA Rules, as well as ad hoc arbitration, mediation, and admiralty and civil commercial proceedings in the Singapore Courts.

Charlene is a dual-qualified lawyer in Singapore and in England & Wales. She was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2015 and was admitted as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 2024.

Work highlights

  • Assisted in a 4-day arbitration hearing under SCMA Rules and successfully obtained an arbitration award against charterers in relation to a time charter party dispute for non-payment of charter hire.
